Description

 The American Accounting Association is seeking a full-time, exempt Senior Director, Publications and Content Strategy to join our team at the Lakewood Ranch Office located in Sarasota County, Florida. Whereas the majority of our professional staff are currently working remotely due to COVID-19, a small, safe number of staff are working in the office and remotely as needed weekly. This position will start out with some initial in-office training and then a combination of remote and in-office work as determined by the CEO.  Our office currently has in place the following COVID-19 Precautions for in-office staff:  Masks required for unvaccinated employees, maintain social distancing as comfortable, sanitizing, disinfecting, or cleaning procedures in place.

Job Summary

The primary responsibility for this position is to lead the AAA publishing program (17 journals) and bring an entrepreneurial mindset in the development of  new services that leverage all forms of content for the benefit of the wider accounting community. This new role is supported by and oversees the Director of Operations, Journals and four additional staff as well as multiple contract employees. The position is part of the Management Team reporting directly to the CEO. Experience working with societies in increasingly responsible roles is essential and experience in developing new programs and services is a plus. The candidate should have a collaborative approach in working as part of a Team. This person will interact with members and leaders of the Association, outside sponsors and other key stakeholders. She/he/them must have the ability to work effectively with people at all levels of AAA, as well as our strategic partners.  The candidate must be comfortable speaking with a high level of professionalism, confidence, and tact to effectively collaborate across all levels to problem solve and execute the highest level of accuracy. This position does require some travel to meetings, as needed.

 Primary Responsibilities

 Work with the Publications Committee to coordinate policies and best practices for all AAA journals. Provide support and guidance to the Publications Committee Chair, including onboarding the roles of Incoming-Chair and VP of Research and Publications (a board position).

  • Manage all publications staff, both full-time and contract.
  • Ensure all staff are aware of and following best practices in the publishing industry.
  • Lead monthly publications staff meetings, and the publications team and Director of Operations, Journals.
  • Manage the publications budget and participate in forecast meetings for the organization.
  • Explore and evaluate vendor offerings and opportunities that optimize the reach and value of AAA content for an expanding audience.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the needs of diverse markets and identify opportunities that serve them.
  • Work with internal stakeholders across research, meetings, and membership to support content efforts and programs that drive growth. Coordinate with internal departments on elements of marketing, branding, data analytics and technology solutions in support of maximizing the value of AAA content to a wider audience.
  • Work with the AAA Headquarters Management Team to explore revenue opportunities related to content in all sectors: Education, Practice, Research.
  • Collaborate on the development of pilot services and obtain feedback to support their growth.

Requirements

Education and Experience Requirements

  1. BA/BS or equivalent combination of verifiable education, training, and/or experience.
  2. A solid background in scholarly journal publishing and working with societies in increasingly responsible roles.
  3. Strong computer and software skills in Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom Meeting/Webinar, and content management systems.
  4. Ability to organize, prioritize and coordinate multiple concurrent activities with excellent attention to detail.
  5. Ability to monitor the progress of tasks and projects and provide follow up in order to meet targeted deadlines.
  6. Ability to interact with professional staff, members, and vendors in a professional manner
  7. Strong skills in the following areas:
